Nico Eekman (1889–1973) painted Boerderij met bomen, an oil on marouflage landscape, signed, in good condition, dating to 1910–1920, 49 × 55 cm including the frame, original edition and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
This early, luminist painting in oil on marouflage is by the hand of Nico Eekman. It shows a house hidden behind tall trees in the front yard. Possibly it concerns a house in Nuenen, where the artist at the time had his studio, though the work also breathes a French atmosphere.
Nikolaas Mathijs Eekman (Brussels, 9 August 1889 – Paris, 13 November 1973) was a Dutch figurative painter and illustrator. He gained fame in France, Belgium and the Netherlands under various names, including Nicolas Eekman, Nico Eekman and the pseudonym Ekma. Eekman was friends with several artists of his time, among whom Piet Mondrian.
In his early oeuvre, Brabant peasant life plays an important role. From memories and impressions of his youth he created paintings in which reality and imagination come together. Also in this work not so much an exact depiction of a place is central, but rather a personal and atmospheric evocation of the landscape and the life that inspired him.
