Description from the seller
For Sale: Vintage "FIELD Windscreen" Petrol Lighter – 1950s (Collectible Model, Fully Functional)
Offered for sale is an authentic piece of history: a FIELD brand automatic petrol lighter—the "Windscreen Excellent Automatic" model—manufactured in Japan during the 1950s. This is an exceptionally rare model, inspired by the era's famous Ronson Whirlwind lighters and notable for its unique engineering and details.
Key Features and Highlights:
Telescopic (Sliding) Windguard System: The metal windguard is fully functional; it slides down manually for a compact profile (suitable for indoor or pocket use) and slides up to shield the wick outdoors. Circular vents ensure controlled airflow to the flame.
Perfect Working Condition: The lighter ignites instantly with a single press of the lever. The valve and flint spring are original and function flawlessly.
Collector's Rarity (Historical Typos): The base of the lighter bears stamped misspellings characteristic of early post-war Japanese production ("WINDSOREEN" instead of Windscreen and "EXCELENT" instead of Excellent). This detail enhances its collector value and authenticates its vintage origin.
Distinctive Design: Solid chrome-plated metal casing featuring fine Art Deco-style engravings (a textured "engine-turned" pattern) that effectively masks signs of wear. It includes a smooth central panel suitable for personalization (such as engraving initials). Technical Details and Maintenance:
Fuel type: Light lighter fluid (Zippo, Ronson, etc.).
Refilling: Extremely simple, via the large screw at the base marked "REFILL HERE" (easily unscrewed with a coin).
Flint replacement: Via the dedicated screw, also located at the base.
Original casing: Shows minimal cosmetic wear—natural for an item over 70 years old—which lends it authentic vintage character. The mechanism is neither bent nor jammed.
Ideal for daily use by retro-style enthusiasts or as an addition to a premium tobacciana collection.
