Description from the seller

FOR SALE: WWI Collectible Lighter – Art Nouveau Style, Fully Functional!

I am offering for sale an exceptional historical piece, ideal for collectors of militaria, vintage items, or historical memorabilia: an authentic pocket lighter from the Great War era (c. 1914–1918).

This is a period-manufactured lighter with a circular shape (reminiscent of a pocket watch design). Its front features a stunning Art Nouveau-style relief medallion depicting a woman's profile, adorned with floral motifs and flowing hair.

Technical details and condition:

Working condition: The lighter is fully functional; the internal reservoir is perfectly airtight, the wick is original and in excellent condition, and the serrated wheel produces a steady, strong flame (see photos). A rarity for a piece over 100 years old!

Original patina: The item has not been harshly cleaned with chemicals, retaining its authentic age-related patina, characterized by warm brass, copper, and bronze tones.

Distinctive historical feature: A clear trace of raised solder is visible on the lighter's edge. This marks the original location of the metal tax stamp (a war surcharge plate typical of the era), which naturally detached over the decades due to wear and daily use. This missing element serves as a genuine historical mark, attesting to the object's eventful past.

Complete mechanism: It features the original serrated wheel, the flint tube, and the attached snuffer cap used to extinguish the flame and prevent fuel evaporation.

Why is this purchase worthwhile?

Most lighters from this period found on the market are seized, damaged, modified, or incomplete. This piece is a rarity due to the combination of its refined Art Nouveau aesthetic, the authenticity of its signs of wear, and its impeccable mechanical functionality. It is a true museum-quality piece that can be displayed in a cabinet or even put to use.
