Description from the seller
A special First Day Cover, designed by Robert Rauschenberg, issued in 1992 by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) in connection with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The cover is signed by Robert Rauschenberg with a black felt-tip pen.
With the official First Day of Issue cancellation stamp: Nov. 20, 1992.
A First Day Cover (FDC) is an envelope or card on which a new stamp is affixed and postmarked on its first official day of issue. Exemplars signed by the artists themselves – such as this – are extremely rare and highly sought after.
The envelope combines several official United Nations stamps on the theme of human rights with a color reproduction of a composition by Rauschenberg.
This First Day Cover is connected with Rauschenberg’s collaboration with the World Federation of United Nations Associations and his work “Tanya’s Veil (Whale).” The corresponding color offset lithograph was issued by WFUNA in 1992 in a limited edition of 500 copies and was created to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
First Day Cover Rauschenberg is professionally mounted, floating on linen, in a gold-colored wooden frame with Plexiglas Optical HC – scratch-resistant and UV-protected.
Frame size: approx. 33 x 33 cm.
First Day Cover: approx. 9 x 16.5 cm
