Description from the seller

Lot Description

Exceptional set for the collector: Magnificent duo of cigarette holders from the Art Deco era (circa 1920-1930), combining the elegance of European silverwork with ingenious mechanisms of the period.

1. Octagonal Automatic Ejector Cigarette Holder (Sterling Silver 935)

• Design & Materials: Body with an octagonal geometric shape with beveled facets, fully decorated with a fine guilloché "grain d'orge". Black bakelite/ebonite mouthpiece.
• Mechanism: Equipped with an ingenious internal spring piston system allowing the cigarette butt to be ejected cleanly with a simple gesture.
• Hallmark: Engraved with the 935 high-purity title (luxury standard for the Germany/Switzerland region).
• Dimensions & Weight: Length 10.1 cm | Total weight 8.77 g.
• Condition: Excellent structural conservation state, the mechanism works perfectly. Traces of natural silver oxidation and light nicotine residues from the period on the inner piston (testimony of authenticity).

2. Curved Cigarette Holder with Removable System (Sterling Silver 835)

• Design & Materials: Body of rounded, curved form, richly adorned with vegetal scroll friezes in transitional Art Nouveau / Art Deco style and oblique guilloché bands.
• Mechanism: Fully detachable model. The black eboney/ebonite tip is fitted with an original screw thread allowing separation from the silver handle for complete maintenance.
• Hallmark: Engraved with the European 835 title.
• Dimensions & Weight: Length 8.3 cm | Total weight 5.68 g.
• Condition: The silver ring is in very good overall condition with a superb patina in the recessed areas of the engravings (note a tiny indentation from use on the upper dome). The black ebavite/ebonite tip shows significant wear (tooth marks) and has a vertical crack visible at the beak with a small flake of material; handle with care (see macro photos).
