Description from the seller
Very delightful oil on canvas measuring 40x50 cm (dimensions of the painted canvas alone) by the artist Mario Cortiello. The painting is already framed. The frame will be considered a gift to the eventual buyer.
On the back is present the authentication by the painter's daughter that certifies its authenticity.
Mario Cortiello (Naples, July 1, 1907 – San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, December 23, 1981) was an Italian painter.
Biografia
He was a pupil of Gennaro Villani but soon parted from his influence and gradually achieved a personal style, managing to renew Neapolitan painting without straying from tradition: his thoughtful, floating Pulcinella figures against dreamlike backgrounds led him to be called the Neapolitan Chagall.
His works are present in numerous Italian museums, including the Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery in Piacenza.
He participated in important group shows:
1930, the 17th Venice Biennale
1934, the 19th Venice Biennale
1935, the 2nd Quadriennale of Rome
1936, the 20th Venice Biennale
1938, the 21st Venice Biennale
1939, the 3rd Quadriennale of Rome
1939, Bergamo Prize
1940, the 22nd Venice Biennale
1942, the 23rd Venice Biennale
1948, the 24th Venice Biennale
In 2006 one of his works was chosen for the traveling exhibition “Il Treno dell'Arte,” which showcased works by one hundred of the most important Italian painters.
The Municipality of Massa di Somma has named a boulevard after him.
In 2008, in Naples, a retrospective was organized on the centenary of his birth, held at Castel dell'Ovo.
