Aurora 925 sterling silver ballpoint pen fully gold-plated, designed by Paolo Portoghesi for Fideuram, with a square 0.8 cm cross‑section, about 13.7 cm long, supplied in a black leather case and including a Schneider Express 225 M black refill and a partly oxidised gold finish.
Description from the seller
Aurora ballpoint pen, designed by Paolo Portoghesi for Fideuram, solid 925 sterling silver entirely gold-plated.
Ballpoint pen produced by Aurora from a design by Paolo Portoghesi, the famous Italian Postmodern architect.
The pen has a square-section body and cap, side about 0.8 centimeters, total length about 13.7 centimeters, in solid silver, 925 fineness, entirely gold-plated, including the portion of metal that inserts under the cap. The plating shows slightly iridescent reflections due to partial natural oxidation of the metal, having never been polished.
Guarantee stamps present in three distinct points of the pen, each in complete pair, on the cap, on the body, and on the body part that inserts into the cap. The manufacturer’s mark consists of a five-point star, number 5, initials TO for Turin. The 925 fineness mark is engraved within an ellipse.
On the cap, on one side, is engraved the signature Paolo Portoghesi, in cursive, followed by "per Fideuram" in uppercase. On the opposite side of the cap, opposite the two guarantee stamps, the name Aurora is engraved.
The golden tip from which the nib emerges and the clip, about 5.1 centimeters long, rigid and solid, in almost perfect condition, both bear the mark M inside a square, indicating generic gold metal, not silver.
Externally, mainly on the body and to a lesser extent on the cap, there are superficial wear scratches consistent with desk use over time. As shown in the photos (the ruler and the two paperweights to lay out the case are not included).
Refill present, model Schneider Express 225 M, medium nib, black ink, perfectly functioning. The mechanism unscrews with the aid of a coin, a operation necessary only for potential replacement of the refill, not for ordinary use of the pen.
Weight of the complete pen with refill: 36 grams.
Supplied with its original black leather scent box, buffalo leather style, soft and in perfect condition, length 21.5 centimeters, width about 5 centimeters when closed, opened along the narrow upper and lower edges, folded into three parts; interior bright with flaps for better side closure and exterior with two black leather loops where the closing tongue fits. On the exterior part of the case, for about half its length, the same pen inscription is repeated, the word "design" in lowercase uppercase, followed by "Paolo Portoghesi", in signature style, "per" in italics, "Fideuram" in uppercase.
Weight of the case: 44 grams. Total weight of pen and case: 80 grams.
Extremely rare piece; it has not been possible to find public references for this specific model, nor other specimens circulating on the traceable online secondary market. The exact occasion for which it was made, or the original recipient, is not known with certainty. Potentially an almost unique piece.
