Description from the seller

Grand Cigarette Case STE-VEL – Art Deco Style – England, c. 1920–1940

Elegant vintage STE-VEL grand cigarette case, featuring a geometric design characteristic of the Art Deco style. This piece from the first half of the 20th century stands out for its generous dimensions, gold finish, and finely guilloché patterns.

The outer surface is adorned with an elegant geometric pattern, with a stepped rectangular cartouche at the center of the front face, typical of the Art Deco aesthetic. This cartouche is blank and offers the possibility of personalization. The back face as well as the interior also reproduce the engraved pattern, creating a harmonious whole.

The interior is equipped with a flexible metal strip mounted on a spring, bearing the inscription “STE-VEL,” designed to keep the cigarettes in place. The push-button clasp completes this item with a refined, functional design.

Thanks to its generous size, this case can also be repurposed as a business card holder or a pocket card case, according to needs.

Condition

Very good overall aesthetic condition, with a beautiful aged patina and light signs of use compatible with the age of the object. The engraved motifs remain clearly visible and the overall presentation remains neat.

The push-button clasp as well as the inner retention mechanism function correctly. No major damage apparent.

Please review the photographs carefully, which are part of the description and allow assessment of the conservation state.

• The interior attachment system: The large gold flexible spring (the metal “serpentine”) is a typical retention mechanism from the first half of the 20th century for securing cigarettes. Modern cases use rigid spring-loaded clips on hinges or fabric elastics.
