Description from the seller
Élodie Guignard is a French photographer and author, born in 1979, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure de la photographie d’Arles in 2004 with honors from the jury. She develops a body of work around the human, the body, portrait and the relationship to territory.
Her approach sits between documentary photography, staging and poetic writing. She has her subjects pose in spaces often timeless, creating images that borrow as much from literature and painting as from documentary.
Some important series
Les Magnifiques — portraits of Emmaüs companions, made in 2012. The project led to a book published by Éditions de Juillet, with a preface by Martin Hirsch.
Narcisse ou le souffle renversé — work around the female body, water, the mirror and mythological references to Narcissus and Ophelia.
Le Village de l’Aurore — work made in India, at the border with Bangladesh.
En été — series realized during a residency in La Rochelle, where she blends characters, stories and myths in a territory she discovers.
Ciments — artistic residency carried out for the Lamotte group, resulting in a photographic book about its 250 collaborators.
She was also shortlisted for the Balzac Prize in 2021, among ten photographers.
