Montblanc No. 98 is a rare vintage ballpoint pen from the classical era of Montblanc metal-writing instruments. Characteristic for this model are the slim, straight form, the fine longitudinal guilloché pattern, and the side clip-lever mechanism for extending and retracting the refill. The high-quality metal construction and the precise mechanics give No. 98 a particularly elegant and technically distinctive character.
This edition consists largely of solid 585/14-karat gold. The individual parts of the body as well as the clip bear corresponding 585 stamps. The Montblanc specialist Jens Rösler (Collectorstar) describes this model as “very rare.” Without a refill, the writing instrument weighs about 15 g. In this weight are, in addition to the gold parts, an inner plastic sleeve, a small part of the lever mechanism, and the replaced brass clip lever.
The ballpoint pen is in good used condition and shows age- and wear-related signs as well as scratches. The body has several dents. There is no personal engraving. A new refill has been installed and the pen is ready for immediate use.
