Description from the seller
The Montblanc No. 10K is a scarce early propelling pencil from the late 1920s to early 1930s and belongs to Montblanc’s first generations of matching writing instruments from the safety-pen era. It features an octagonal black hard-rubber body, an original clip and a traditional twist-operated propelling mechanism for 1.18 mm lead. As is typical of early propelling pencils of this period, turning the mechanism advances the lead, while reversing it retracts the internal pusher rather than drawing the lead back automatically. This example is especially interesting for the period corporate inscription “NEW-YORK HAMBURGER GUMMI-WAAREN COMPAGNIE”, referring to the long-established Hamburg manufacturer of rubber and hard-rubber goods. The combination of early ebonite construction, the comparatively uncommon clip-equipped configuration and the historic company imprint gives this 10K a particularly strong period character.
The pencil is in very good pre-owned condition and has been carefully cleaned. The surface shows very minor signs of use. The Montblanc markings, emblem and corporate inscription remain clear and well preserved. The mechanism operates correctly and the pencil is ready to use.
