Leo Jordaens (1944–2000), Burning sky, an original 1980 acryl painting in Impressionism, 46 × 41 cm, sold with gilt frame and signed by hand, depicting a summer scene with two farmhouses beside a watercourse under a burning sky.
Description from the seller
Leo Jordaens (Merksem 1944 – Antwerp 2000) – Farmhouses by the water under a burning sky
A glowing evening landscape by Leo Jordaens. Two farmhouses with low, sweeping thatched roofs stand on either side of a row of trees, their gable ends lit orange by the setting sun. The whole scene is mirrored in still water. Above it the sky catches fire in orange, ochre, sulphur yellow and rose.
Jordaens builds the sky in broad, combed strokes and sets the farms and the waterline down in thick palette-knife impasto. That contrast between the smooth water and the heavy, textured land is typical of his best work. The painting is signed upper right in orange paint.
Leo Jordaens was the son and pupil of Léon Jordaens. He is listed in the Piron lexicon of Belgian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries and is known above all as a colourist of skies and atmosphere.
Oil on board, in a gilt wooden frame.
Condition: Good
The paint layer is in good condition, with no visible losses. The frame shows wear to the gilding.
Measurements: 46 × 41 cm
Shipping: Medium package.
