Black Sabbath – Vol. 4 (Malaysia), a single-item SAS pressing from circa 1973, released in Malaysia with catalogue TEP-514-756, housed in a non-gatefold sleeve (VG+) and featuring EX vinyl.
Description from the seller
Extremely unusual and very difficult-to-find Malaysian pressing of Black Sabbath's Vol. 4, issued on the obscure SAS label under catalogue number TEP-514-756. This is a fascinating Southeast Asian variation of one of Black Sabbath's defining albums, presented in packaging that differs fundamentally from the familiar UK, European and American editions. Period sales documentation identifies the SAS edition of Vol. 4 as a Malaysian pressing dating from around 1973, with the SAS label itself documented as operating in Malaysia during this period.
One of the most striking features is the unique locally produced sleeve. Instead of the elaborate gatefold packaging used for the standard original editions, this Malaysian SAS version comes housed in a regular non-gatefold sleeve, with a distinctly different rear-cover layout and design. The unusual local artwork and construction make it immediately recognisable as a completely separate regional variation. SAS releases from Malaysia are known for using their own catalogue numbering and locally adapted artwork. Other surviving SAS LPs from the early 1970s use the same TEP-514-xxx catalogue sequence, supporting this copy's place within the label's Malaysian catalogue. Because documentation surrounding SAS is limited, claims about the exact licensing arrangement behind the release are best avoided. What is clear is that surviving examples are very rarely encountered compared with conventional Vertigo and Warner Bros. pressings.
⸻
Sleeve (VG+):
The unusual non-gatefold sleeve remains in nice overall condition. There is some ringwear and light creasing together with normal age-related handling wear, but the surfaces remain clean and the distinctive local artwork presents very well → VG+
Vinyl (EX):
A particularly attractive example. The vinyl retains a beautiful original gloss and presents extremely well, with only very light signs of previous handling or play. For such an obscure Malaysian pressing, the vinyl has survived in remarkably strong condition → EX
