Description from the seller
Original Kamigata woodblock diptych by Isshusai Kunikazu (active 1848–1868)
Kunikazu was a student of the famous ukiyo-e master Utagawa Kunisada I. Like his teacher, he excelled in yakusha-e (actor portraits) and scenes from the Kabuki theater.
The Osaka style (Kamigata-e) Unlike the mass production in Edo (modern Tokyo), Osaka artists focused on a smaller, highly dedicated community of theater lovers. Kunikazu worked almost exclusively in smaller, intimate paper formats.
Scene from the Kabuki play "Sakura Momiji Ōmi Hakkei" 櫻楓近江八景 performed at the Kadoza theater in 1857.
