Biography of Hoang Anh.

Born in 1984 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam; lives and works in Hanoi.

Originally from Thanh Hoa province, located 150 km south of Hanoi, Hoang Anh belongs to this pivotal generation of Vietnamese artists (the 8x generation) who combine cultural heritage and contemporary abstraction. A graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, he established himself on Hanoi’s art scene with a bold approach to material and color.

Graduate of the artistic talents program (Class 13) at the Thanh Hoa School of Culture and Arts
Graduate of the Painting Department (Class 48) of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts

Style and Artistic Approach
Hoang Anh’s work is distinguished by an intense exploration of texture and movement. While he explores varied themes such as landscapes, nature, and the female figure, it is in abstraction that his expressive power shines:
• The energy of gesture: A devotee of oil and acrylic painting, he frequently uses a palette knife to apply color in vigorous horizontal strokes. This gesture creates a nearly musical rhythm on the canvas.
• Chromatic contrasts: His work plays on the contrast between background neutrals (urban grays, textured whites) and bursts of primary colors — ardent reds, solar yellows, deep blues — that seem to burst from the surface.
• Lyric abstraction: His compositions do not seek to reproduce reality, but to capture its emotional essence. His canvases often evoke ephemeral phenomena: the reflection of light on water, the vibrancy of heat, or the bustle of a metropolis in transformation.

Exhibitions and Recognition
An active and acclaimed artist, Hoang Anh regularly exhibits in prestigious galleries in Hanoi and within national art collectives. His works are part of numerous private collections, both in Vietnam and internationally, charming by their ability to translate an oriental sensibility into a universal and modern language.

"Painting, for me, is a breath, a way to fix the invisible energy surrounding us." — Hoang Anh
