Description from the seller

MONTBLANC SAFETY FOUNTAIN PEN NO. 2 IN EBONITE (GERMANY, 1910s/1920s):
We present at auction an authentic relic of the history of writing: the legendary Montblanc Safety Pen No. 2. This instrument, forged at the beginning of the twentieth century, stands as a living testimony to the origins of what would become the world’s most famous writing manufacture, when it still operated under the name Simplo Füllpen Gesellschaft.

With the period’s classic proportions, it measures 12.5 cm in length (closed) and a thickness of 1 cm. The body and cap are turned in black ebonite (hardened vulcanized rubber). Unlike many surviving units that have suffered severe oxidation, this piece retains a very dark color and, more importantly, incredibly crisp engravings. On the cap you can discern the primitive engraving of "MONT BLANC" with the mountain emblem, while the body bears the rare and coveted seal "SIMPLO ORIGINAL MONTBLANC". The dome is crowned by the iconic white star, which bears a lovely yellowed patina forged by a century of age.

It features the ingenious "Safety" mechanism: by twisting the end-piece, the splendid 14-karat solid gold nib retracts into the reservoir, allowing the cap to seal hermetically to prevent leaks.

Condition (Expert Review)
Readers are asked to carefully study the photographic gallery, which is an essential part of the description. The item is in an exceptional historical condition:

Ebonite and Engravings: No cracks or breaks. The engravings (imprints) are deep and perfectly legible, something extremely rare in century-old ebonite.

Mechanics: The advance and retract mechanism of the retractable nib is shown as operational. (Important note: As is strictly customary with “Safety” pens of more than a century old, the original cork seals inside are likely dried. Although the pen is mechanically operable, it requires the installation of a new cork seal by a professional restorer if the new owner wishes to ink it and use it daily without risk of leaks from the end-piece. It is sold as a collectible piece and is delivered without a box).

Shipping
The item will be carefully protected and securely packaged, with insured shipping and international tracking number.

A golden opportunity for purists and Montblanc archivists to add the brand’s foundations to their collection!
