VINTAGE MONTBLANC SET 642 AND PEN (GERMANY, circa 1950s): We present at auction a magnificent and historic writing set from the prestigious Montblanc brand, dated to the 1950s.
The main piece is the coveted fountain pen model 642 (marked on the cap). This model belongs to the luxury range of its time and stands out for its beautiful platinum-coated cap in rolled gold with an exquisite guilloché geometric pattern. The body is turned in black deep-colored celluloid/resin. It features a fabulous original 14K solid gold nib with classic writing, and is inked via the traditional piston filling system.
It is accompanied by its original matching pen, a true mechanical jewel that uses the historic lever-action system integrated into the clip itself, a design highly sought after by collectors of vintage instruments. The set comes in a classic period-style case with a light satin interior.
Condition (Expert Review)
Please examine the photo gallery carefully. The set is over 60 years old and presents an excellent appearance, with details to note:
Bodies and Caps: The celluloid is in good condition, with no cracks. The gold caps retain great shine and the guilloché pattern is very well preserved, showing light micro-scratches typical of its age.
FLAW / CUSTOMIZATION: As shown in the close-up photos, the smooth lip of the fountain pen cap bears a personal engraving in cursive handwriting (initials/last name of the original owner).
Mechanisms: The fountain pen’s piston operates. The pen’s clip lever mechanism works correctly. (Expert note: Given that these are 1950s vintage instruments, the pen may require lubrication of the cork/rubber seal for optimal daily use. The pen will require an adaptation to a current refill, since originals from that era are discontinued or dry. It is delivered as-is to preserve its originality).
Shipping
The set will be carefully protected and securely packaged, with insured shipping and an international tracking number.
A superb opportunity for collectors to acquire a complete high-end Montblanc set from the 1950s in enviable cosmetic condition! Best of luck to all bidders, and may we have an excellent auction!
