Description from the seller
1799. The Longest Year
The work treats the dramatic year 1799 (according to the Revolutionary Calendar the year VII and VIII), in which France fought for survival on almost all fronts at the same time:
• The threat: While Napoleon Bonaparte was far away tied up with the campaign in Egypt, the Second Coalition formed. Austrian and Russian troops pushed the French back massively in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland (Helvetia) and destroyed earlier successes.
• The turning point: In the last third of the year, the tide turned through military victories at home and the unexpected, urgent return of Bonaparte to France.
• The coup d'état: The year culminated in the famous coup of 18 Brumaire VIII (9 November 1799), with which Napoleon overthrew the Directory, seized power, and founded the Consulate
• It contains over 200 historical illustrations, maps, and graphics.
• Uniforms: A special highlight for Militaria enthusiasts are 10 exclusive color plates on uniforms by the renowned expert André Jouineau
Condition: light signs of use on the binding, interior clean and with firm binding
