AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

An exceptional and large antique Japanese Satsuma earthenware vase, dating back to the golden age of the Meiji Period (1868-1912). This vase is a magnificent example of high-quality craftsmanship, beautifully styled with the traditional ivory-colored glaze and fine overall craquelure (crackle glaze).
The body is masterfully hand-painted in rich overglaze polychrome enamels and extensive bright gold highlights (Kinrande technique). It features a lush, continuous seasonal landscape motif depicting large imperial Chrysanthemums (Kiku), symbols of longevity and the Imperial House, alongside traditional Bamboo and blossoming Plum branches (Ume). Some of the petals are finely applied in thick, raised enamel relief (moriage technique). The shoulder of the vase is adorned with an intricate, dense geometric and radial cross-hatch border in gold, iron-red, and green enamels.
• Mark: Signed on the base with a four-character handwritten mark in iron-red: 薩摩 (Satsuma) followed by the studio mark, associated with the renowned Hododa (保田) workshop or Kyoto/Yokohama high-end schools of the era.

Provenance:
From the private family collection of an Italian diplomat who professionally served in international missions—including Tokyo (Japan), France, Russia, and the Philippines—during the late 20th century; thence by family descent to the current owner.

Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition. The vase is structurally perfect with absolutely no cracks, hairlines, chips, or restorations. The thick enamel work is incredibly well-preserved, and the original gold detailing remains exceptionally bright and vibrant, showing only microscopic, age-appropriate shelf wear. A choice piece for discerning collectors of fine Asian art.

Shipping information:
Due to the delicate nature of this piece, it will be packed with utmost care using professional, multi-layered protective materials (bubble wrap, custom padding, and a sturdy double-reinforced box). Shipped via premium express courier with full tracking and insurance.
