Arnaldo Pomodoro, Sans Titre, 2013, limited edition aquaforte and aquatinta etching, 80 × 60 cm, Italy, sold by Galleria, 2010–2020 period.
Description from the seller
Arnaldo Pomodoro was born in Montefeltro in 1926, spent his childhood and training in Pesaro. Since 1954 he has lived and worked in Milan. His works from the Fifties are bas-reliefs in which a very singular, unprecedented “writing” in sculpture emerges, interpreted in various ways by the leading critics. In the early sixties he tackles tridimensionality and develops research into the forms of solid geometry: spheres, discs, pyramids, cones, columns, cubes—in polished bronze—are cut, corroded, hollowed at their core, with the aim of breaking their perfection and uncovering the mystery they enclose. The formal contrast between the smooth perfection of the geometric form and the chaotic complexity of the interior will henceforth be a constant in Pomodoro’s production.
Emblematic and very rare of the master, the visual and technical quality employed for the work is of exceptional level.
The edition number may not correspond to the number shown in the photograph.
The provenance of the work is the Galleria Grafica Manzoni, which issues its certificate of authenticity.
