Claude Haumont (1936-2009) - Abstract surrealistische compositie (1998)

A splendid and extremely refined gouache on paper by the respected Belgian artist Claude Haumont (1936-2009). This work, signed and dated in the bottom right corner, is a beautiful example of his unique artistic vision in which abstraction and surrealism blend seamlessly.

Claude Haumont, a central figure in the post-war art scene of the Hainaut Thudinie and the Mons area, is often associated with lyrical abstraction, but his roots and deepest inspiration lie unmistakably in surrealism. Haumont employs a deeply psychological, almost dreamlike visual language. Whereas pure abstraction often remains formless, Haumont creates with his delicate ink lines and organic color fields mysterious, biomorphic structures. These immediately evoke associations with extraterrestrial landscapes, hovering microorganisms, or inner dream worlds. His work breathes a mysterious, poetic atmosphere that is so characteristic of the rich Belgian surrealist tradition.

In this specific gouache from 1998 we see his mastery in full glory: a hypnotic interplay of deep blues and aquarelle-washed hues, accented by delicate details in black and white ink and a single, fiery red focal point. A top-tier piece for the connoisseur and collector of modern surrealist art.
