Description from the seller
A highly desirable US Liberty-era Blue Note pressing of Hank Mobley's A Caddy for Daddy, carrying the distinctive "A Division of Liberty Records, Inc." label text and, crucially, the original Rudy Van Gelder stamp in both runouts.
Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's legendary Englewood Cliffs studio on 18 December 1965, A Caddy for Daddy brings together an extraordinary hard-bop ensemble: Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The album includes the infectious title track alongside The Morning After, Venus Di Mildew, Ace Deuce Trey and 3rd Time Around.
This particular copy belongs to the early Liberty Records period of Blue Note production, following Liberty's acquisition of the label. The presence of the Van Gelder stamp on both sides confirms that the record was manufactured from metalwork derived directly from Van Gelder's original mastering rather than from a later recut.
⸻
Sleeve (VG+):
The original Blue Note sleeve remains structurally sound and presents very attractively. The front artwork is clean and sharp. There is some writing on the rear together with light age-related handling wear, but no major structural damage. Overall, a very solid VG+ example.
Inner Sleeve:
Original inner sleeve included.
Vinyl (EX):
The vinyl retains excellent deep gloss and shows only minimal evidence of previous handling or play. There are no significant marks or distracting scratches. The labels are clean and well preserved. Overall a particularly beautiful EX copy.
