Description from the seller

RECTANGULAR GOLD-PLATED CIGARETTE CASE

Modernist / Late Art Deco era, circa 1940 – 1950
• Structure and Decoration: Elegant pocket necessity or cigarette case with a rectangular section in yellow gold-plated metal. The two external faces feature remarkable goldsmithing work in a guilloché full pattern, comprising a rhythmic alternating arrangement of fine vertical grooves and horizontal beaded friezes, offering subtle reflections and play of light.
• Personalization and Markings:
• The main face is centered in the upper part by a rectangular nominative cartouche, finely engraved in small capitals with serifs, bearing the property monogram "I.D.".
• The back presents a sober finish, reproducing the same continuous geometric pattern.
• The interior, fully faceted in brushed anti-reflective metal, reveals cold-stamped adjustment and assembly marks in the inner corners, bearing foundry and workshop numbers "37" and "49".
• Mechanism and Specifications: Hidden side hinge opening, operated by a protruding rectangular push button with a notch. Its ingenious articulated design allows a dual-tilt opening, capable of serving as a tabletop display in a stand mode.

• Condition Report: Very good overall condition of the structure. Uniform patina from use. Localized slight wear to the gilding on the prominent corners and friction edges. Superficial micro-scratches visible under magnification. The opening mechanism, the spring push and the hinge alignment are fully functional and rigid.
• Dimensions: 9 x 8 x 1 cm.
