Description from the seller
SALVADOR DALÍ (1904–1989) (after)
Moses and the Ten Commandments – The Ten Commandments
Gran bajorrelieve en bronce patinado, ca. 1977–1980
Important and spectacular patinated bronze low-relief by Salvador Dalí, dedicated to one of the great episodes of the Old Testament: Moses and the reception of the Ten Commandments.
The composition shows Moses kneeling before the monumental Tables of the Law, whose texts are represented by Hebrew characters. Around him, Dalí develops an extraordinary landscape of biblical inspiration transformed through his characteristic surrealist language: abrupt rock formations, human figures and an explosion of geometric and linear shapes that confer upon the scene an intense mystical dimension.
In the lower area appears the characteristic signature “DALI” integrated into the relief itself.
The piece presents a magnificent antique patina in brown, coppery and green tones, with surface oxidations that emphasize the volumes and provide great visual depth to the composition.
The work corresponds to the well-known model The Ten Commandments / Moses and the Ten Commandments, produced in various editions and finishes at the end of the 1970s.
Approximate dimensions: 65 × 50 cm.
The pronounced relief of the figure of Moses, the Tablets of the Law and the rock formations creates strong contrasts of light and shadow, turning the work into a large mural sculpture with great presence.
The reverse, preserved, visible in the photographs, allows the appreciation of the construction method of the relief and its original structure.
Condition: good overall. It presents patina, green surface oxidation, minor scuffs, color variations and signs typical of its age. No apparent major structural losses. It is recommended to carefully examine the extensive photographic documentation.
A particularly attractive work within Salvador Dalí’s sculptural production and editioning, combining his surreal universe with one of the great religious themes that fascinated the artist in his maturity.
