John Mayall's Looking Back (Japan) – 1970 1st pressing promo is a single Japan‑issued London Records SLC286 vinyl with an original gatefold sleeve, complete with OBI and Japanese insert, and the record in Near Mint condition.
Description from the seller
Highly collectible original 1970 Japanese first pressing promo of John Mayall's Looking Back, issued on London Records under catalogue number SLC-286. This copy carries the Japanese 見本盤 promotional/sample marking on the label, identifying it as a copy manufactured for promotional distribution rather than normal retail use. Japanese promotional pressings are particularly appealing to collectors because they were distributed in much smaller quantities to radio stations, reviewers and industry contacts. Combined with the fact that this is already the first Japanese pressing, the promo marking makes this a considerably more specialised variation than the standard commercial SLC-286 release.
The record features the classic blue London "Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound" labels, manufactured in Japan by King Record Co., Ltd., Tokyo. Looking Back collects important recordings from John Mayall's influential British blues period, showcasing musicians associated with the various incarnations of the Bluesbreakers, including Eric Clapton and Peter Green among many notable contributors. The album includes "Mr. James", "Blues City Shakedown", "They Call It Stormy Monday", "So Many Roads", "Looking Back", "It Hurts Me Too", "Double Trouble", "Jenny" and "Picture on the Wall".
This Japanese edition is housed in the substantial original gatefold sleeve and remains fully complete with its original Japanese accessories.
⸻
Sleeve (EX):
The original gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition, remaining very solid, clean and attractive with only minimal age-related handling or storage wear.
Insert / OBI:
Original OBI and Japanese insert are both present and intact, completing the full Japanese presentation.
Vinyl (NM):
The vinyl is in superb Near Mint condition, retaining a beautiful deep original gloss with extremely little evidence of previous play or handling. The promotional labels remain clean and attractive, with the important sample marking clearly visible.
