Syd Barrett — The Madcap Laughs (Japan) is a 1974 second pressing released by Odeon in Japan, complete with OBI and insert, with EX sleeve and NM vinyl (OP-8927).
Description from the seller
Highly collectible and ultra rare 1974 Japanese second pressing of Syd Barrett's legendary debut solo album The Madcap Laughs, issued on Odeon under catalogue number OP-8927. This is the scarce second Japanese issue, distinguishable from the original 1970 pressing by the updated Toshiba-EMI Ltd. credits on the label. The Madcap Laughs occupies a unique place in psychedelic music history. Recorded after Barrett's departure from Pink Floyd, the album was produced across different sessions by Malcolm Jones, Roger Waters and David Gilmour, capturing Barrett's songwriting at its most intimate, fragile and unpredictable. The album includes some of his defining solo recordings, including "Terrapin," "No Good Trying," "Dark Globe," "Octopus," "Golden Hair," "Long Gone" and "Late Night." The famous gatefold artwork, with Barrett photographed in his London flat, has itself become one of the most recognisable images associated with his post-Pink Floyd career. What makes this copy especially attractive is that it remains complete with both the original ¥2,200 OBI and the original Japanese insert. These loose components are very often missing from surviving copies, and complete examples of this already difficult Japanese pressing are especially desirable.
⸻
Sleeve (EX):
The original gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition, remaining very clean, solid and attractive with only minimal signs of age and storage. The sleeve displays beautifully and remains structurally sound.
OBI:
The original ¥2,200 OBI is present. There is some staining visible on the rear, while the front remains clean and displays very nicely.
Insert:
Original Japanese insert included.
Vinyl (NM):
The vinyl is in superb Near Mint condition, retaining a beautiful deep original gloss with extremely little evidence of previous play or handling. A genuinely outstanding example.
