Description:
Magnificent surrealist composition by Salvador Dalí, belonging to his famous graphic interpretation of The Divine Comedy, one of the artist’s most ambitious and renowned publishing ventures.
The scene corresponds to Canto XXIV of Dante’s Purgatorio, where the Tree of Punishment appears, a symbol of penitence, purification, and mastery over earthly desires.
Dalí transforms this episode of world literature into a composition of extraordinary poetic force. The stylized figures, the tree of fantastical forms, and the delicate combination of blue, green, reddish, and ochre tones reflect the surrealist language characteristic of the master.
The work belongs to the monumental editorial project developed between 1959 and 1963, whose realization required approximately 3,500 woodblocks to reproduce in color the one hundred compositions created by Dalí.
Copy on Japanese paper, without watermarks or filigrees, presented together with the photographic reference of the original cover by Joseph Foret, Paris.
A notable graphic work by Salvador Dalí, of interest to collectors of surrealist art, original graphic work and major 20th-century bibliophilic editions.
