AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

LIMITED EDITION OF 20 COPIES — NUMBERED AND SIGNED BY THE ARTIST

Original fine art photograph by Agathe Toman, taken in the French Alps during winter 2023.

This work is part of the artist’s SHARED COLLECTION: a selection of photographs offered in limited editions, allowing her work to enter new collections.

Fine Art print on glossy photographic paper, printed in France.

The deliberately grainy texture in the image is an essential feature of Agathe Toman’s photographic practice. Far from seeking perfect sharpness, the artist uses grain as a material: it densifies the image, unsettles its temporality, and brings photography closer to her painting.

The work is:
— edited in only 20 copies
— numbered at bottom left
— signed at bottom right
— signed, numbered and dated on the back
— accompanied by a certificate of authenticity completed and signed by the artist

Printed in Biarritz, France.

The photograph is sold unframed and will be carefully shipped rolled to ensure its protection during transport.

AGATHE TOMAN

Born in 1989, Agathe Toman is a French artist of French, Austrian and Czech origins. Her practice spans painting, drawing, photography and writing.

Trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, she initially worked in fashion and haute couture, notably for Saint Laurent and Maison Rodier, before dedicating herself fully to her artistic practice.

Her work is presently presented in France and internationally.

Since 2021, several of her works have been offered at auction by Sotheby’s in Paris and Cologne, notably in Contemporary Curated, Living Contemporary and Modern & Contemporary Discoveries sales.

She participated in Art Paris at the Grand Palais in 2019 and again in 2026, as well as in DDessin Paris. In 2025, one of her works entered the collection of the BIC Foundation.

Her work is present in numerous private collections in France and abroad and has been the subject of publications in various media dedicated to art and contemporary creation.

Agathe Toman lives and works today in the Landes, in the southwest of France.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY

In her photographic practice, Agathe Toman primarily photographs forests, mountains, the sea and natural phenomena.

Her images do not seek to document a landscape. They seek what appears when it ceases to be merely a place.

Grain, deep blacks, erasures, light accidents and loss of definition gradually tilt reality toward abstraction.

This approach directly aligns with her painterly practice: covering, erasing, accumulating, removing, letting appear.

“I do not invent the images; I make them appear.”

Her work is built around what, in experience, precedes understanding. An inner necessity becomes a form.

Thus, photography becomes less the representation of a landscape than the trace of an experience: something between the visible and what escapes it.
