Bernd Berner (1930–2002) - Komposition

Bernd Berner (1930–2002).

Color lithograph, 1996.

Handsigned, numbered, and dated by the inspired German artist.
Edition of only 25 copies.
Size: 65 x 50 cm.

Excellent condition.

Berner is a key figure in post-war European abstraction and the German "Informel" movement; he was a pioneer in the fusion of space and color—to an extent equal to, or perhaps even surpassing, that of Rothko and other 20th-century Abstract Expressionists. The artist achieves a chromatic dynamism with tonal values that command both admiration and respect. Rather than seeking the random accidents characteristic of Action Painting, he employed a meticulous transfer process from the matrix to the paper, producing very limited editions—as is the case with this lithograph. Photographs fail to fully capture the nuances present in the actual, spectacular graphic works of this artist.
