Giovane donna con ombrello, an oil on cardboard painting from 1950, Italy, original, attributed to Fausto Pirandello, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Fausto Pirandello (Rome, 1899–1975) attributed to
“Young Woman with Umbrella”
Oil on cardboard
Period: 1950
Dimensions: 58 x 48.5 cm in frame
Painting: 45 x 35 cm
Provenance: Private collection
The painting depicts a young woman elegantly dressed, seated in an armchair and intent on holding a colorful small umbrella. The composition stands out for a tactile, spontaneous, and vigorous brushwork, characterized by strong chromatic contrasts and an essential construction of forms.
The female figure, absorbed in an enigmatic and melancholic expression, emerges from the domestic setting through a refined balance of pinkish, green, and brown tones.
The work presents a figurative language of expressionist matrix, with particular attention to the psychological dimension of the subject, elements that suggest possible affinities with Fausto Pirandello’s artistic research in his mature period.
*** Note on the inscriptions on the verso
On the back of the work, directly on the cardboard support, there are several handwritten inscriptions apparently made in the not-too-distant past.
In the upper part the wording “F. PIRANDELLO” is clearly legible, referring nominally to the painter Fausto Pirandello (Rome, 1899–1975).
NOTE ON THE ATTRIBUTION OF THE WORK
Fausto Pirandello (Rome, 1899 – Rome, 1975) – Attributed
Young Woman with Umbrella
Oil on cardboard, circa 1950
The work is presented with an attribution proposed to Fausto Pirandello (1899–1975), based on stylistic and compositional considerations, as well as the presence, on the back of the support, of handwritten inscriptions that refer to the artist’s name.
It should be noted that such inscriptions, while constituting an element of interest for study and identification of the work, do not by themselves constitute definitive documentary proof of autograph authorship.
In the absence of a certificate issued by competent bodies, of historical documentation proving provenance, or of further scientific checks, the attribution should be understood as prudent and open to further investigation.
The work is therefore proposed to collectors as “Attributed to Fausto Pirandello” and not as an autograph work definitively established.
We invite interested parties to carefully examine the photographic documentation, including the back images, and to form their own assessments taking into account the attributive nature of this cataloging.
This notice is provided in respect of principles of transparency and fairness toward collectors.
Magnolia Art – Art Gallery and Auction House
Condition Report: generally good condition with age-related signs
The frame shows normal signs of use, abrasions and small losses compatible with age.
*** Photo note
Photographic images of the work were taken with professional studio lighting and spotlights to allow better readability of the composition, details and painting matter. Such lighting may cause slight variations in color perception and brightness compared with viewing the work directly. The photographs are for illustrative and documentary purposes only.
The frame is provided free of charge with the work and must therefore be considered an accessory element, not included in the painting’s economic valuation. Due to the natural fragility of antique gilded frames, any damage, detachment, breakage or losses of parts of the frame occurring during transport or shipping cannot be the subject of refunds, compensation, or challenges to the value of the work. The packaging will, however, be prepared with the utmost care to ensure the safest possible transport.
Shipped insured and with a sales document; legitimate provenance.
