Rare and highly decorative vintage cigarette case in brass/yellow-gold colored metal with a beautiful engraved map of the Indonesian archipelago.
The front shows the islands Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi and Bali with historical place names engraved in the cartouches: Batavia, Tjeribon, Semarang, Soerabaja, Bandjermasin, Samarinda, Pontianak, Makasser, Palembang and Bali. In the lower left there is a blank round monogram medallion for possible engraving.
Origin: England (marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the inside)
Dating: ca. 1930 - 1950 (WWII / Colonial period)
Material: Brass / gilded metal with guilloché pattern on the back
Condition: Good used vintage condition with nice patina and light signs of wear consistent with age. The locking mechanism works properly and smoothly. See photos for an accurate impression of the condition.
Elastic band missing but that does not detract from the object.
A beautiful collectible for enthusiasts of militaria, colonial history, cartography and vintage smoking accessories!
