Description from the seller
Stanwell POY 1989 Pipe - Collectible Edition - Design by Jess Chonowitsch / S. Bang - Made in Denmark
Object Description:
For sale a prestigious and rare vintage Stanwell POY (Pipe of the Year) from 1989, entirely produced at the historic Borup facilities in Denmark. This iconic annual model features the famous sinuous conical lines developed for the brand by the leading Danish pipe-design names (Jess Chonowitsch / S. Bang).
The block is enriched by a beautiful deep sandblasted/rusticated finish with warm Bordeaux/brown tones, with a smooth rim that enhances the look of the briar eye. On the shank is set the original sterling silver rectangular plaque marked "Stanwell 1989". The vulcanite mouthpiece bears the original crown stamp of the Stanwell brand with the letter "S" filled in white/silver.
Technical Sheet and Precise Measurements:
* Manufacturer: Stanwell (Denmark)
* Model: Pipe of the Year 1989
* Style/Shape: Straight Conical Brandy (Tall Conical Brandy)
* Total Length: 146 mm (5.74 inches)
* Bowl Height: 45.5 mm
* Internal Chamber Depth: 38.8 mm

* External Bowl Diameter: 33 mm
* Total Weight: 37 grams
* Mouthpiece Material: Vulcanite (vintage Ebanite)
* Fitting Type / Filter: Traditional open hole, no filter (No filter)
A light pipe, extremely balanced and comfortable in hand and between the teeth. A piece of Scandinavian design history from a bygone era, perfect to enrich a collection or for a high-level smoke.
Current condition of the item (As of now):
The pipe is used but in excellent structural and functional condition.
* Briar: Excellent, intact, with no cracks or burns on the rim. The finish preserves the reliefs perfectly and distinctly.
* Plaque: Clear inscription and legible hallmark.
* Mouthpiece: Structurally sound (no deep bite marks), showing widespread brown/greenish surface oxidation, a completely natural and typical patina of vintage vulcanite exposed to light or time. It has not been intentionally polished to preserve the original discovery state of the piece; the oxidation can be easily removed with a standard cleaning cycle (vulcanite oil or mild abrasive pastes).
A historic piece of high Danish artisanal craftsmanship for collectors. Tracked shipping and professional packaging guaranteed.
