Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (UK) – 1967 1st Stereo Pressing, complete with original YEX 637-1/YEX 638-1 matrices, laminated gatefold sleeve, original inner psychedelic sleeve and cut-out insert; Parlophone PCS 7027, UK release; sleeve VG+, vinyl EX.
Description from the seller
A particularly strong original 1967 UK stereo first pressing of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, issued by Parlophone under catalogue number PCS 7027.
This copy carries the important original stereo matrices YEX 637-1 and YEX 638-1, which identify the genuine first-pressing configuration rather than one of the later recuts. The -1/-1 matrix combination is the original UK stereo cut used at the time of the album's release, making this a genuine early example of this landmark recording.
Just as importantly, this copy retains the complete original presentation. The famous red-and-white psychedelic inner sleeve is still present, together with the original Sgt. Pepper cut-out insert. These components were easily separated from the record over the decades, so a complete copy is considerably more desirable than an otherwise comparable example missing its original extras.
Released in June 1967, Sgt. Pepper marked a decisive moment in both Beatles history and the development of the LP as a complete artistic statement. The elaborate Peter Blake and Jann Haworth gatefold sleeve, printed lyrics, psychedelic inner and cut-out sheet were all integral parts of the original concept.
⸻
Sleeve (VG+):
The original laminated gatefold sleeve is a very strong VG+, presenting notably well. The front and rear panels remain clean and attractive, the colours are strong, and the famous gatefold artwork displays beautifully. There are only normal light signs of age and handling preventing a higher grade.
Inner Sleeve / Insert:
The original psychedelic inner sleeve and original Sgt. Pepper cut-out sheet are both present, completing the package as originally conceived.
Vinyl (EX):
The vinyl is a very strong Excellent example, retaining an excellent deep original gloss. There are only light superficial signs of previous use, with no major distracting marks. The playing surfaces remain remarkably clean for an original 1967 copy. The labels are also clean and attractive, adding further to the overall quality of the copy.
