The Kinks – Kinks (UK) 1964 1st Mono Pressing on PYE (NPL 18096), a UK release with the original inner sleeve, VG+ sleeve, VG vinyl, mono, featuring the track list including You Really Got Me.
Description from the seller
A genuine 1964 UK first mono pressing of The Kinks' self-titled debut album on Pye Records (NPL 18096). Released only months after "You Really Got Me" had transformed The Kinks into one of the most important new British groups of the period, this debut LP captures the band at their rawest and most immediate. Ray Davies' songwriting was only beginning to emerge fully, while the group's sound still drew heavily from American rhythm & blues, rock 'n' roll and the energetic club performances that had shaped their early career. The album naturally features the breakthrough "You Really Got Me," built around Dave Davies' famously distorted guitar sound—one of the most influential riffs of the British beat era and a recording that would have an enormous impact on later garage rock, hard rock and punk. The original UK mono edition represents the album in its proper domestic configuration; in 1964, mono was still the principal format for British pop and rock releases. This copy retains its original period inner sleeve, completing the package nicely.
⸻
Sleeve (VG+):
The original laminated UK sleeve remains in solid VG+ condition. There are normal signs of age, storage and handling consistent with a genuine 1964 example, but the sleeve remains structurally strong and presents very attractively. The front artwork retains its characteristic laminate and strong visual impact → VG+
Inner Sleeve:
Original period inner sleeve included.
Vinyl (VG):
The vinyl is visually graded VG. It retains a respectable original gloss but shows clearly visible surface marks, hairlines and general play wear from previous use. Playback is stronger than the visual appearance might initially suggest. Some crackle and surface noise can be heard, particularly in quieter passages, but the majority of the record plays at approximately VG+ level, with no mentionable severe playback problems. A well-played but still very enjoyable original copy → VG
Labels:
Original Pye labels, clean and well preserved.
