ABOUT THE ARTIST
Frederic Amat is one of the most distinctive Spanish visual artists of his generation. His work, which is difficult to categorize, begins with painting and gradually incorporates drawing, sculpture, ceramics, installation, illustration, and printmaking. Trained in architecture and set design alongside Fabià Puigserver, he developed an experimental and material-based artistic language beginning in the 1970s, influenced by artists such as Antoni Tàpies and Joan Miró, as well as by his experiences in Africa, Mexico, New York, and other cultural contexts.
His career also includes significant work as a set designer for theater, dance, and opera, as well as film projects. He has exhibited internationally, and his work has been the subject of major retrospectives at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona and the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. In 2007, he received the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia.
