Andrea Lehmann’s 2007 original oil painting The only one depicts two young women with long, silvery-white hair in a dark setting and measures 70 × 60 cm.
Description from the seller
This intriguing artwork features two young women with long, silvery-white hair sitting very close together in a dark, mysterious setting. Their nearly identical appearance evokes associations with connection, identity, and the relationship between reality and reflection. The soft, refined rendering of their faces and hands contrasts strongly with the rough, dark background and the erratic lines that run across the painting like spiderwebs or cracks. The special, organic structures in the foreground add a tangible dimension and amplify the surreal character of the composition. The penetrating gazes and subdued body language of the women create an atmosphere of vulnerability, melancholy, and mystery. Through the interplay of realistic painting, abstract elements, and a subtly chosen color palette, a layered and poetic image emerges that invites the viewer to pause and reflect on themes such as connectedness, transience, and the complexity of human identity.

2007
Andrea Lehmann was born in 1975 in Düsseldorf and is part of the notable contemporary artists within German figurative painting. From 1995 to 2002 she studied at the prestigious Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where in 2000 she became master student to the renowned artist Markus Lüpertz. Her work is characterized by a distinctive fusion of realism, neoromanticism, surrealism, and influences from Japanese manga culture. Especially her mysterious female portraits and fantastical scenes, in which beauty and alienation are continually intertwined, have brought her international recognition. Lehmann draws inspiration from fairy tales, mythology, dreams, and the painting of old masters. Her figures often inhabit a puzzling world where the line between reality and fantasy blurs. Through her refined painting technique, idiosyncratic color use, and psychologically charged imagery, she creates artworks that are both alluring and slightly unsettling. Her work has been exhibited in leading international art institutions and galleries, including the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami. Lehmann lives and works in Düsseldorf and has earned a recognizable place in contemporary European painting with her personal, imaginative visual language.
