Description from the seller
Loïc Tuhal (1962): The Radiance of the Gaze
Loïc Tuhal is a French painter whose artistic universe is distinguished by expressive painting, energetic brushwork and a bold use of color. His work explores the human figure through generous painterly matter, intense contrasts and compositions that emphasize emotion and the power of the gaze.
In The Radiance of the Gaze, the artist presents a close-up portrait of a woman, whose green eyes immediately seize the viewer’s attention. The face occupies almost the entire canvas, creating a striking sense of proximity. Red lips, defined eyebrows and facial features emerge from a riot of vivid colors that blend and overlap with intensity.
Luminous yellow, orange, scarlet red, deep blue and green form a flamboyant palette. Thick brushstrokes, impasto and visible knife marks give the surface depth and reinforce the spontaneous character of the work. The background blends with the hair and contours of the face, in a continuous movement where the colors seem to vibrate.
Rather than pursuing strict realism, the artist prioritizes expression and the energy of the material itself. The gaze, both direct and enigmatic, becomes the focal point of the composition. It endows the portrait with magnetic presence, while the chromatic contrasts convey remarkable emotional intensity.
Situated at the boundary between figurative portraiture and Expressionism, this work asserts a strong, contemporary visual identity. Its square format of 100 × 100 cm and its spectacular palette make it a striking decorative piece, ideal for bringing energy and personality to a modern interior.
