Hotel II by Agustí Puig (1957), a 1992 Pop Art serigraphy in an edition of 247/250, 70 x 50 cm, hand-signed and in excellent condition, produced in Spain as an interior-scene print.
Description from the seller
Signed and numbered lithograph by painter Agustí Puig (Sabadell 1957). Currently thriving in New York.
Dimensions: 70 x 50 cm.
Influenced by Transavantgarde and seduced by comics and graphic design, Puig sinks into a phase of romantic landscapes, which will lead to the reaffirmation of the roots of Pop Art. His stay in New York, in 1992, marked a rethinking of his artistic priorities; the density of material and gesture will accompany him in the multiple and incessant creative transformations. Rapid and vigorous manufacture of earthy, reddish, white and black colors that become spaces for reflection on the essence of life and an evident return to his most primitive origins.
Agustí Puig has held international exhibitions and, in his long career as an artist, one notable curiosity stands out: his role in Woody Allen's film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, for which he lent a part of his work and also advised Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem in their artistic roles.
From a young age he began painting and made a name for himself as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell, at the beginning of the 1980s. Paralleling this, he was soon recognized in the field of graphic design. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts of Sabadell, at the Massana School and at the Circulo Artístico de San Lucas in Barcelona. In 1985 he received the 4th mention of the Joan Miró International Drawing Prize and in 1986 he was selected for the Young Art Exhibition organized by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. He has exhibited in Spain, France, England, the United States and Japan. He collaborated as a painter in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which has brought him recognition beyond his usual circles. The vast body of Agustí Puig’s work has been shown in several institutions and is included in both private and public collections: the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan, the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Testigo Collection of the La Caixa Foundation in the Balearic Islands, or the Tarragona Museum of Contemporary Art, among others.
