Description from the seller

The Gourmet Prince, Series 1001 Nights, 2016, Isa Sator

The Work
The Gourmet Prince is part of the series One Thousand and One Nights, painted by Isa Sator in 2016.
On a vibrant raspberry pink background, a prince with golden hair, eyes closed, inhales a red rose. He lounges on a violet sofa covered with golden arabesques and white pearls. He wears a bright green coat with orange lapels over a red waistcoat. At his feet, a large tray of Oriental pastries, crisscrossed with a tangle of violet threads. On the right, a golden ewer watches over the scene.

The work is inspired by a passage from One Thousand and One Nights: a passionate tribute to pastries, and especially to kenafa, this dessert of fine strands of dough bathed in butter, honey and syrup. The tale makes of it an antidote to every poison. Isa draws from it a scene of pure sensory pleasure: sight, smell, taste. The violet threads entangled on the tray evoke the strands of kenafa.

A joyful and sensual work, between an Oriental tale and colorist expressionism.
