Dial and Hands
The matte black dial is in well-preserved condition, characterized by crisp, fully intact printed text. The luminous hour markers have aged to an attractive warm patina, providing excellent vintage character. The handset features a Mercedes-style hour hand and a baton minute hand. The luminous material on these hands shows noticeable darkening and degradation compared to the well-preserved dial indices.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features an integrated lug design that defines its profile. Moderate scratches and scuffs are visible on the case flanks and lug surfaces, consistent with regular use and presenting honest wear. The distinct bezel includes a black insert with silver numerals, showing moderate scratches and wear on both the insert and the outer steel rim. A knurled crown signed with the Omega logo shows minor surface wear. The flat crystal remains clear and free of significant scratches, chips, or crazing.
Movement
This model is powered by the Omega caliber 1438, a 6-jewel quartz movement based on the ETA 255.261 architecture. The quartz movement appears clean with no visible corrosion or battery leakage, and a battery is present. The movement displays clear engravings reading OMEGA, 1438, SIX 6 JEWELS, SWISS, and V8.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet. This integrated stainless steel bracelet features a signed Omega clasp. Scratches and scuffs are visible on the links and clasp from normal use, representing normal honest wear. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 17.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The matte black dial is excellently preserved with warm patina on the markers, while the hands show noticeable lume degradation and darkening. The stainless steel case, bezel, and original integrated bracelet exhibit moderate scratches and scuffs consistent with honest, regular wear. The flat crystal remains clear, and the quartz movement presents cleanly.
Dimensions
The case measures 38 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
The attractive warm patina on the dial markers gives this watch excellent visual character. Combined with the reliable Omega caliber 1438 quartz movement and its original integrated bracelet, this is a highly wearable and appealing example of late twentieth-century design.
History
The Omega Seamaster line from the late 1980s and early 1990s introduced an angular case profile designed to seamlessly integrate with its bracelet, a style affectionately known by collectors as the 'Pre-Bond' Seamaster. This era of production offered robust quartz options like the 6-jewel caliber 1438, delivering reliability within a distinctive and highly recognizable aesthetic.
