Description from the seller

Military costumes. Catalogue of the principal series of French military costumes..
It is one of the most significant bibliographies and reference works on French uniformology.
• It is an extremely detailed, scholarly catalog (about 562 pages). It records, classifies, and lists page by page all major image series, etchings, and illustrated volumes that deal with French military uniforms (and foreign ones published in France) – from the reign of King Louis XV to the end of the 19th century.
• The edition: The rare first edition in large octavo format (8vo) includes a frontispiece designed by the famous French military painter Job (Jacques Onfroy de Bréville) and in total 4 to 5 hand-colored plates. These show historical figures such as the Tambour-Major of the Swiss Guards under Louis XVI or an Officier de Chasseurs of 1808.
Condition: light signs of wear on the binding, inside: clean and with a firm binding.
