Photography Meets Painting

This work by the Zermatt photographer Marc Kronig consciously moves at the intersection between photography and painting.

The starting point is an original Polaroid, which the artist subsequently hand-edited with black and white Edding pens. Through these deliberate interventions, contrasts are intensified, contours are emphasized, and the original photograph is altered in its effect. Thus, from the photographic moment, an autonomous, painterly-looking work emerges.

Marc Kronig lives in Zermatt and has been intensely involved with photography for around 40 years. In this work, he combines his long-standing photographic experience with an immediate manual editing of the image.

Through the individual hand-editing, the work is an original and a unique piece – it exists in this form only once.
