Description from the seller
An extraordinarily interesting and extremely rare tobacciana collector's lot for the connoisseur of unique smoking curiosities, antique advertising ceramics and early technology. This lot combines an authentic Mid-Century store display with a fascinating, technologically sophisticated artifact from the history of pipe smoking.
The lot consists of the following two unique objects:
1. Mid-Century Wade England ‘Hilson’ Ceramic Pipe Holder / Ashtray (c. 1950-1960):
An original, rare store-display item produced by the renowned English factory Wade England on commission for the legendary Belgian pipe brand Hilson. The cream-white holder is elegantly decorated with gold borders and dots, and features a magnificent, high-gloss black figure of a greyhound (Scottish Terrier). On the front the brand name "Hilson" is hand-painted in gold letters. At the bottom the object is marked with the period-typical sunk blind stamp "Wade England".
2. Rare Vintage Electronic Pipe (Bruyère & Patent Pending, c. 1975-1980):
An early and technologically very advanced e-pipe made from high-quality briar wood (rootwood) with a beautiful, deep grain structure. At the bottom of the wooden head is an integrated electronic compartment, marked with the sharp stamp "PAT. PEND." (Patent Pending / Octroi Demande). On the inside of the head and mouthpiece the original gold- and copper-colored electronic contacts and wiring are fully visible. A rare and sought-after gadget-collectible from the early history of electronic smoking systems.
