Description from the seller
A powerful tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen), featuring a dragon 龍 (ryû) in the clouds, one of the most enduring subjects in East Asian art.
The dramatic composition depicts a fierce dragon in the center emerging from swirling storm clouds, its sinuous body disappearing into the mist as it stretches forward with an outstretched claw, flowing whiskers and jaw.
Executed in colour and black ink 墨 (sumi) on silk. The painting is bordered by silk brocade trims and set within a black lacquered wooden frame fitted with protective metal hardware.
Two seals in the lower right corner.
Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926)
Dimensions: Total width: 364 cm; Height: 170 cm.
Considering its age, the screen is in very good restored condition, with wear consistent with age. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.
The folding screen is well suited for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art, but can of course also be displayed as a freestanding piece.
