Description from the seller

Elisabeth Vandeweghe (née in 1946) & Perignem – Anthropomorphic ceramic totem sculpture with gilded glaze (c. 1970)

Impressive freestanding sculpture in chamotte ceramic, attributed to the Belgian ceramic artist Elisabeth Vandeweghe for the Perignem workshop in Beernem.

The piece features a vertical, anthropomorphic, opening silhouette with strong decorative impact, characteristic of the brutalist and modernist style of the 1970s. It stands out for full coverage in a bright metallic gold glaze, worked in relief with geometric incisions, punctuated details around the central medallion, and stamped honeycomb motifs.

The underside shows the raw red-brown terracotta of origin, typical of the workshop's artisanal production.
