AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze sculpture of two crossed, folded hands, signed. Part of a series of works that Jet van Zijl commissioned between 1994 and 2001 for Stichting Zorg voor Ouderen and Stichting Wonen voor Ouderen, intended for care centers in Oss, Megen, Herpen and Schaijk. The hands formed the central, connecting theme of this series.

This specific piece, a set of two connected hands, was specially commissioned by the Foundation(s) for the board members, produced in a limited edition. Provenance and explanation have been confirmed directly by the artist.

The work is also depicted in the artist’s monograph under the title "In Goeie Handen". The current owner has mounted the sculpture on his own wooden pedestal, lying down, supported by two metal rods. Total weight including pedestal: 6.6 kg.

Jet van Zijl (born 1947, Geffen) studied Monumental at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch and then Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turnhout. Since 1985 she has been working professionally as a sculptor, with works on commission for individuals, government bodies, companies and foundations, in addition to her own work exhibited in galleries and sculpture gardens, including Museum Jan Heestershuis (Schijndel) and Galerie Kempro (Sterksel, 2025). Hands form a recurring theme in her oeuvre, housed in the series "Handelingen", which first found its podium at Kasteel Heeswijk and has since been shown at, among others, Museum Van Lien, Galerie de Pol and Galerie de Elborgh.

Natural patina, as is customary with bronze of this age.
