Description from the seller

Exceptional monographic lot of 4 loose plates, reproducing the philological unity of the first sketchbook of drawings from 1964 drawn from the famous Pablo Picasso portfolio "Le Goût du Bonheur" (The Taste of Happiness), published in 1970.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE LOT:
This lot offers a rare collecting opportunity: it brings together the reproduction of the frontispiece of the album "Croquis Canson" (used by Picasso from April 25 to May 20, 1964) together with 3 splendid works created inside that same specific sketchbook:

The nude laid out on 25.4.64
The totemic figure of 4.5.64 (II)
The iconic cubist portrait with the cat at the bottom from 8.5.64 (IV)
frontispiece to the drawing album

A perfect set of 4 graphics ready to be framed and exhibited as a narrative sequence of Picasso's creative process.

THE PRINTING QUALITY OF DIETZ OFFIZIN:
Executed by the famous Dietz Offizin printing workshop in Munich, this special patented photo-mechanical technique (free of typographic halftone) faithfully recreates the density, texture and tactile thickness of Picasso's greasy pencil and ink strokes on fine Velin d'Arches paper.

PROVENANCE AND ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTATION:
The works come from portfolio no. 322 of 666 originally belonging to the Milanese antiquarian Dr. Gino Sansoni, purchased in 1970 by Dr. Alberto Machiavello (then director of the Galleria "L'Incontro" in Milan).

Included in the lot: The purchaser will be provided with a certified true copy of the historical letter dated February 10, 1976 signed by Dr. Gino Sansoni on letterhead from the "Casa Editrice Astoria", certifying authenticity, family provenance from the 1970s, and edition numbering.

NB: The lot is limited to these 4 graphics namely 3 figure lithographs + frontispiece of the album (The Case/Box is excluded).
