Antique Silver-Plated Vesta Case (match safe) - ca. 1900

Stunning and fully functional antique Vesta Case (match safe) from the late Victorian or Edwardian era (1895 - 1910). This was around 1900 used by gentlemen to keep friction matches (vestas) dry and safe in the pocket.
Material: High-quality silver-plated brass.
Decoration: Razor-sharp, finely engraved "engine-turned" pattern (vertical bands and wavy lines), featuring an elegant intertwined hand-engraved monogram (initials FR or RF).
Operation: The spring mechanism is in excellent condition. The lid closes snugly and opens with a push button on the side.
Striking surface: The underside features the original ribbed striking surface to light the matches.

Unique extra: It is supplied with the original antique friction matches with the characteristic pink-red buttons.

Condition: In very good antique condition with light, characteristic signs of age on the closing edges that attest to historical use. The engraving is not affected by polishing.

Length: ca. 5.1 cm, Width ca. 3.8 cm
