Description from the seller

Heinz Fischer‑Roloff (1923–2004)
Kastoria, 1967
Oil on canvas
Signed on the back
Dimensions without frame: 50 × 38 cm
Dimensions with frame: 52 × 40 cm
Weight: approx. 650 g
Condition: good condition; details see photos

This work from 1967 presents a modern composition typical of Fischer‑Roloff’s work in the 1960s. The calm, flat color field is contrasted in the upper part by a precisely structured, graphically built color stripe. This combination of clear planes and constructive order gives the painting its special tension and expressiveness.

The work is supplied together with a catalog from Galerie Orangerie‑Reinz, Cologne. The accompanying catalog documents Fischer‑Roloff’s later collages from the 1980s and 1990s, thereby offering a broader insight into the development of his overall oeuvre.

About the artist
Heinz Fischer‑Roloff was born in 1923 in Hanover and is counted among the significant artists of the region. The impressions of the destroyed Hannover after 1945 shaped his early works, several of which are represented in the Historical Museum Hannover. Under Prof. Burger‑Mühlfeld, a representative of the New Objectivity, he further developed his clear, reduced formal language.

In the 1950s, Fischer‑Roloff worked as a graphic designer for Pelikan and Bahlsen, before study stays in France and Italy deepened his artistic development. In 1960 he was invited – at the suggestion of his friend Carl Buchheister – to the renowned Villa Massimo in Rome, together with artists such as Gerhard Hoehme and Emil Kies. His work combines graphic precision with experimental material handling and accordingly holds a firm position within post-war German art from an art-historical perspective.
