Description from the seller
MARIO ROSSELLO (1927–2000) – “MAN”, 1978 – BRONZE SCULPTURE, EDITION 245/300
Important bronze sculpture realized in 1978 by Mario Rossello, Italian sculptor, painter and ceramist, a leading figure in the artistic research of the late twentieth century.
The work depicts a stylized male figure through an essential and modern language, in which the synthesis of forms and the sense of movement give the sculpture a strong expressive personality.
Artist: Mario Rossello (1927–2000)
Title: Uomo (Man)
Date: 1978
Material: bronze
Edition: 245/300
Stamp: Venturi Arte Bologna
Dimensions: 30x7x9
Condition: excellent with only a couple of very light whitenings at the base
The specimen offered here bears the inscription “Rossello 78 – 245/300” and the Venturi Arte Bologna stamp, elements that attest to its signature, dating, progressive numbering, and reference to the foundry.
Of particular interest is the link to the history of Italian motor racing: in 1978 Mario Rossello was the artist chosen for the prestigious series of trophies “L’Alfa Romeo ai suoi Piloti”, an initiative through which the automobile company entrusted important Italian artists with creating sculptures to celebrate the drivers and their sporting achievements.
This exact model was used as a trophy in another 300 editions bearing additional automotive branding.
The present specimen features the signature, the numbering 245/300, and the Venturi Arte Bologna mark, without the additional Alfa Romeo inscriptions found on other documented specimens.
A work of notable interest for collectors of twentieth-century Italian sculpture, authors’ bronzes, and memorabilia linked to the history of motor racing.
